Issues with our lines here at the stadium all of them related to the construction I mean this is a major construction zone. You're one bills drive these -- in fact I I walked into work today mentioned somebody. There's more construction guys here and there are girls employees right now by a lot I mean there's just construction all over the place apparently are. Our -- issues were related to that. But we have solve them we are on the air half hour late and you're the rundown James -- gonna join us at the 830 tonight the pills hoping wide receiver a -- talk about. He's going to be joining -- that 8 o'clock tonight talk about NFL issues. And joining us on the line right now is the co-founder of you can't play dot org you can play project Patrick Burke -- it's -- Christina a story that deals with the revelation last night. University of a Missouri all American defensive lineman Michael -- Says that he is gay in an interview with ESPN's. Outside the lines last night stating publicly what his teammates and coaches at Missouri have known. Since August night he said Michael Sam said. I am an openly proud gay men it is set off but a lot of a discussion around the NFL in the sports world today Sam is eligible for the NFL draft didn't make. He could become the first openly gay player in the history the NFL. Is a project in anywhere between a third and maybe fifth rounder in the draft is obviously those assessments continue but it has set up a lot of discussion about what it means to be -- in. American professional sports and sports in general. Joining us on the line is the co-founder. Of you can play project he is an official with the National Hockey League works in net. Player programs for the National Hockey League he has come from the the bloodlines of the Burk family in the NHL Patrick Burke joins us right now co-founder of UK employee. Project Patrick thank you very much arena near the three appreciate it. We're proud. We appreciate you coming on on short notice today as well. Which you mentioned first of -- -- when he had ship your father is a prominent NHL executive has been for several years and you work in the league right now correct. I doubt in my director played it to the national hockey -- I Brian. How -- GM and several diplomatic help team currently the president of hockey operations for the Calgary audience. And we should mention -- that -- -- late brother tragically -- acknowledged he was -- while working at Miami and university with their hockey team he tragically passed away in an automobile accident is that what got you going on the you can play project Patrick. Absolutely my brother Brandon came out used the -- associated with these and it shall become publicly. I didn't student manager Miami university in Oxford -- And few short months after he came out publicly he idea that you said he passed away and we leave it on -- doing great things and help but it changed. Is sometimes home all the all the sport then there are valid committed to carrying on his legacy through our local you can play. But you should be congratulated for that were on the line with a co-founder of you can play project Patrick Burke. The talk about the Michael same situation tell us exactly what the you can play project is all about -- Sample our belief is that you can contribute to a winning team. You have this talent character in the work ethic to make your sports team better and you should be on that -- you can play you can quite. Pretty simple concept down too many times we have I told me -- athlete well being gay bisexual or transgender athlete. I don't feel safe coming -- -- locker and because of that they're not able play up there all the tax they happen. Waste time and energy and mental -- Outlined their teammates their coaches there that about all about being the best player that they -- Soul as a hockey executives are believed that that argument improve our players feel they feel included. And out like they can be part of a team and we think that's extend to the gay community is well. Patrick who all is the message that you can't play message directed it at the athletes horrid team executives teammates the public at large. I anybody who consider themselves part of the sport all the way that's because. I hear a -- -- all bill than not. You know -- US and every night it's for the radio or whether it's because you're I'll fame basketball player whatever might be if you continue your -- part of sports while. And we think -- format that apply to you because. -- -- -- Well you can't go more than when I mean. You know -- sports that are -- -- but they respect him down I'm here and I in August 22 gay football players -- win the toppled build a Super Bowl. I'm sure leak yet Margaret Margaret -- well built central on. -- -- -- From the players from the coaches. And you're not from the management -- at them whatever might be a -- and karma is applied. -- line with Patrick for the co-founder of the you can play project in the project has been up and running for a couple of years now right Patrick. I know -- to come up our two year anniversary here shortly. Work -- partnered with Major League soccer and the National Hockey League. Are down a lot of work with the NFL and that'll be expanding now might Michael announcement. I've got a lot of work with. Major League Baseball probably do it some military might remember. You know -- of -- going on you all day almost all the Wear and state we have about one. Are there are working professional and collegiate sports all men and women or. It would apricot and equality. What kind of work have you done with the National Football League so far and how do you think the Michael -- announcement will change some of them moving forward. -- -- Then quit at Vienna Saudi initiative -- high five and this year it. We bring packed -- that it -- and soon. Player to meet with LG BTUs and talk with them about their life experiences. You know I'll learn from each other. We the NFL with some training program put some documents that given the players. I'm we'll be -- training and education that game. I'm not that might open up towards actually got I think. Right now they're the best thing is that they're the conversation happening and players and coaches them and there are a lot of discussion. Might not always the same positively like we looked like. But the fact that aren't talking about the now than what would it be like at a inquire and adult -- -- -- -- NFL. How would you react to that weather here. Banner earlier lineup maximum on every now and we really -- conversation will end up being positive -- there are some robots audible. Tell me about the distinction and I know what you mean when you say openly gay player but there's no doubt there have been -- players in the National Football League before. And I I don't doubt that -- whoever that player was his teammates. Were aware of that -- so why is it important that. Player acts or in this case Michael -- openly announced himself is it. We're going to talk about it publicly makeshift. More clear what's going on -- -- -- players who have been out. -- seen never talked about it publicly. Make it clear especially hurt her young athletes young gay athletes. Who might not feel at the sports world accepts them a lot of them. On the might not feel like they could grow up play professional football. Because they would be excluded because they're all now Michael found in a ball and then yell at CC defensive player of the year unanimous all American. Would get in and out of that prospect that you -- sound like probably what took that ground at this point. Get players complaining and I thought they can play any NHL they complain any debate or sports. I without any limitations on them because of their sexual orient and I got the -- -- samples sent to -- Again with a focus on you to hear what sent the young gay -- our country. Patrick I would -- you know couple of sports talk radio shows a little bit today I don't listen to a -- -- There seems to be among people who may be feel uncomfortable about this. Some sort of hang up about the locker room and you've been around professional sports I would assume your life -- because you're dead your scalp with the Philadelphia Flyers. There's some sort of mystical. Feeling about professional sports locker rooms some people are pretty business like -- multiple programs I've been around about you. It's funny in the army now off all the locker rooms are I -- but my first and -- locker when I was there aren't. They have got a year sent without spending significant time and one and and they never been a hole for me even you know here in almost all the where you don't hear I'm not many. -- of the family environment to business environment seem to take care of each other -- -- out retired they have each other's back. Maybe at least they're an NFL player except when questioned about this out -- gonna work is my own good guy. The -- that in the locker room but I -- we don't. See these these reservations and other people expressing like Michael bell walk in all locker room and all the and chaos and kind of went to. Well a lot of professional athlete you know I don't. Certainly shocked a lot of people with. I think a lot of professional athletes -- sleeper on the limit. And that doesn't really affect the locker room all that much for your sleeping what so. The fact that someone might actually put Serbian public record date exclusively. Another -- and it not really in some alternative. To chaos here. What about outside the locker room the public -- I was thinking about this over the last 24 hours or so Patrick. There can't be too many American Americans let alone sports fans but they're camping too many Americans who. Who haven't -- with somebody -- a homosexual or have someone in their family was almost sector have been around somebody -- a homosexual I mean it's it's pretty common now and most of us have learned served pretty much ignored -- work with that are just let it be right. Now. Earlier I mean there have been the numbers are pretty staggering in terms of support. Especially if you go younger and younger. I hear some humiliated. By the North America. Likely grew up with a friend or family members you seem. Positive and happy. How -- -- -- -- -- pop culture. Are you grew up with whatever it is whether it will and grace certain glee. I found that Garrett whatever it is. You have relatively keep people in your lights in your pop culture and tumultuous I'll. So it's no longer that big dark secret anymore. I'm elected in a lot of ways weight behind the times. Terms and talking about this issue and acknowledging that this Cuba. Italics and they're gonna stay away from in Connecticut buyer I actually think now that I think organized a new app that let. And it's in that -- Michael. That it isn't a real positive boost in terms of and enter the endorsement. Fundamentally want entertainment that -- in the sports world and you consultant to get that soccer team at another way you can better. Patrick -- is on the line with a seek co-founder of the you can play project talking about the Michael Sam announcement it would actually just about point four hours ago Patrick get what's been the tenor of the public discussion over the last 24 hours they are you. Discouraged or encouraged by what you've hurt. -- wouldn't help from people matter and and and it it got. He knew. Gutless coward who give anonymous quote saying they're not sure about their locker room. They don't think -- that in and our locker room. -- -- a football team and you don't think Michael Campbell's been in your locker room and that out in negative move. And I don't put your name on it and say you know I -- -- the key elements such esteem. I will not be drafting Michael -- and our locker imitated here. If your read on your locker room is correct your players will lot. But they're not gonna do that because they know they're not really right there is not an -- What we've really seen it from the people who run great organization well run organization championship organizations. The owner of the New York Giants have come out that. That this will not -- Michael sand -- stock at all -- -- owner and coach in the New England Patriots are out and Nobel checked. I've come out said the diplomatic factor valuation Michael sent battle. All gluten that people who make important decisions in Italy at the league not this. Pat teams that are relevant in terms -- you know at the end of the year they're going to be standing there. Holding -- trophy. Or in some capacity. Execute well on -- this and that's what matter. If Patrick -- one thing that people have talked about over the last 44 hours is the so called distraction factor and when you see that the media frenzy that's been created over this last day with that is the Michael -- announcement. I wonder about that -- teams stay away because there. They don't want their training camp to turn into you know a Tim Tebow type situation a training camp with you know network TV news like shots etc. I mean first of all we walked up. It is you know I mean New York City we -- at a Super Bowl here at the call that circuit would be understated. I think the league nine years only want people paying attention or. I'm economic all -- -- -- the problem here in. Iraq until we want. Now training camp -- few extra camera around. Running stories on that. Game one you have a big press conference that ever -- the rock the Mike although it was like -- -- -- Obama did football player to play any game. The storyline in game two. The idea about what your key to winning or losing it's going to be about whether or not Michael producer or not. This is going rapidly run out of steam. The sports media world at the attention span of a three year old and a chocolate aren't. They're gonna move on something new as soon as they possibly can't solve distraction angle immediate completely irrelevant. If Michael Sam help your team win football game and their organizations which are all basis so long I think he helped -- that makes sense -- Sign and then don't draft and if he can't help on the field -- that. And I record field you know without. Go ahead finish your point he can help you on the field. He can't help -- until the -- Popped up but it he can't help you on the open didn't work that you have to hire a lot more PR and -- -- to deal look a little more interest. If you got a house structure I mean. Everyone in the league not so hard to get I -- and actually rushed. If I can do that. You're not going to deal for five more interviews the week because of that you're in the wrong industry. For the record Patrick -- I'm well over three years old I haven't had chuck and and a couple of days though Putin include beat instead take it and dig. Let's -- it for the fifth Michael Sam the player and and the man. What has he done to himself here -- Unnecessary unnecessarily put a lot of pressure on himself not a perform. I don't think he would get -- first of all I would say that in his mind. It's not about money it's about being a football player and he's been very productive. When he's out. But it's got Eaton came out pretty innocuous teammate and he was widely embraced. Going back into the closet for -- was not an option. It's not how we want to live -- life. So. In terms of money your inability to be a long term football player who always says that he played better when he can be part of a team open Al. Every you know the living it's true peace that. Long term. You know -- -- what's the difference between the third set -- -- media underground or whatever it is but. It's your -- round pick who goes to a good situation with a team. That support you and accepts you. And you can play a decade in the league as opposed to playing two -- -- third round but they're way better off financial. That could give folks who were interested in reading more about the you can't -- project were in the ago. That worked -- you can quite project dot org -- more clear that you can play team. I'm fired executive director Wade Davis who rhetoric senator gave former self where I hate -- all where the media today he did a great piece I think. It's about center looked at one. I'd want -- wanted to waiter or a great piece for Monday Morning Quarterback Peter King say. And that now sports dot com had a couple radar quote about the coming out process. Understood learning more about or about Michael -- his story though -- -- direct match. Patrick thank you very much for sharing your story in net giving -- your insights and we really appreciate it. Thanks so much and I'll put the bill not a great draft and a great up in the -- You know we all for that thanks Patrick -- co-founder of you can't play the you can play project. And he -- that you can go to the you can play project a dot com for more information and that's gonna take a break come back. Take your phone calls on this issue a lot more to come with our late start to -- because a technical difficulties. We are the John -- show presented by no go live tonight from one bills drive on Buffalo Bills -- We're back with more of that John Murphy show on Buffalo Bills radio. Again our thanks to Patrick Burke who was co-founder the you can't play project. And again if you're -- stint on Twitter it's that you can play eighteen. Or you can go to their website you simply project dot -- Their mission statement is pretty much sums up what better we're talking about you can employ force to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity you compete. Judged by other athletes and fans alike only by what they contribute to the point to the sport or their team's success on who can argue that. Who can argue with that he was -- he's a great spokesman for -- you can -- project -- Burke and you heard is that background is. His father obviously longtime NHL executive Brian Burke is the younger brother Brandon passed away a couple of years ago after about couple weeks after he acknowledged that. He was gay was serving as a manager the Miami of Ohio hockey team. The university hockey team down there and Patrick -- particular because with the you can play fractured and go to. You can play project dot org for more information on that it's an interesting no discussion it came about with the announcement. Just last night that all American defensive lineman Michael -- -- Missouri. As declared openly that he in his quote I am an openly proud -- -- did it on the outside the lunch program on ESPN yesterday but talk more about a little bit about that -- exclusively but gonna check in with a long time. On how long time -- short time but he was a favorite of bill brings it needs an outstanding broadcaster now on the West Coast Kirk Morrison. Is gonna join us when we return for the next hour to -- we apologize for -- -- tonight because of technical difficulties we think we've got to solve a more on the air until 9 o'clock tonight if elected join in the discussion with Kirk Morrison. The fault lines are open 8030550. -- toll free 1888552. By fifty -- arsenal we return for the second hour the John Murphy show presented by no. Like tonight from one bills drive a Buffalo Bills radio. -- Half time he's over. It was more about John -- Biggio presented by milk so you can stop. Let's go from the fact that many groups in the north end of the John Murphy show presented by Sunoco supply natural gas and electricity. -- thousands of homes and businesses across Western New York. John Murphy show when presented by Miller. On Buffalo Bills radio. Powered attorney general. Joseph presented by no growth thanks for tuning in tonight then coming up this hour a little bit later on we're really talking with James Lofton bills hall of fame wide receiver. Who we'll welcome his Buffalo Bills teammate Andre reed into the pro football hall of -- this August. James also just finished deficit on the sideline and Super Bowl 488 days ago in MetLife stadium in New York so James Lofton. Gonna join us at the bottom of the hour former bills receiver former bills linebacker Kirk Morrison gonna join us any minute now he does radio now for Spock fox Sports Radio music. Color analyst on his all the miners football broadcast San Diego State University. The aztecs and we'll talk with -- -- in about a lot of NFL issues going on right now so he's scheduled to join us and well right now as a matter effect after a couple years with the Buffalo Bills he has embarked on a very successful already. Career in broadcasting former bills linebacker Kirk Morrison live on the line -- right right now Kurt thank you very much for coming on the show we appreciate it. What are your time outdoors today doing great words shivering here in buffalo you probably do much better out west in San Diego everything. I'll lose -- the suitable for a whole week last week -- You know I got a little bit out of New York weather gear solid very well prepared buffalo they call me a lot. You know if you left your mark your -- that you're here for a couple of years he came I think didn't. They end of training camp in 2011 that was. Coming off the lockout year but in the short time I think you -- a lot of good friends both on the bills' roster and he. In the community especially among the media you're popular guy here for for such a short timer I thought what do you think. -- decent -- easy -- would definitely wanted dollars so people while the Buffalo Bills organization that it is truly up family. Organization there might know each other we're -- friendly and -- is great for me the outlook -- -- getaway from. Home and I -- the Californian in the -- for the Buffalo Bills does he not Western New York you never been that far away but it. You're right it made the adjustment you know -- makes it easier for me that was created just from that. -- that are -- winning seasons but definitely the relationship in my time out there forget. Those words here I believe your last years in the league right of 2002012. Here with the bills right -- -- last hope. Years and I wanted to play in this year let you do a search -- sometimes. Opportunities present themselves. And as well as you know you look at the tradition of the NFL and where it is now and the way that you know we're we're paying quarterbacks and some of the top tier talent and we'll see over the next couple weeks with. The free agency and as well as the franchise tag. You know it's it's hard for veterans such -- myself when you in the years seven and 89. Norton really it's hard to keep up with some of the you know the top of the quarterback -- because you know you -- quarterbacks so much about. A -- -- you have to really about your roster would moderate person second year guys and that's the draft has been really helpful for a lot of teams that you -- it seemed like Seattle and and you -- services so they kind of built themselves a good mix of young and nobody is not a lot of young talent. Round alive we're Kirk Morrison former bills linebacker he's -- eight years in the NFL when he is a broadcaster now you're on fox football daily. I'm -- -- one now how's that going for Kirk -- you like that. Managing is great and now I have to tell you you know the closest thing the player for me it's because every Sunday. Morning in and then dropped a week unit chances. No we just topple ball and you get a chance to talk with you know got a future hall of famers like Romney Barbour and Randy Moss Brian -- It also will do the college football stuff souvenirs at probably age Georgian. And then -- clad in -- Alex who played. No college football to -- a -- really really level lately here -- like that so. It's been great -- transitions being good in every day it's something new and definitely right now you look at the way. College football it is definitely got to college at the NFL draft coming up and then the new little Michael Sam over the last couple days has been. You know this kind of you know been the topic of discussion first possible daily. Yeah there's always have to talk about before we get the some of those issues is what you're also the color analyst sensed the -- San Diego State right. -- in the stable quality. I always want to know to be a part of setting a -- -- in some. Sort of play in the this year actually yeah. -- do an opportunity to be the radio broadcast because held dual offense the ball playing any NFL this year I've worked out for public seems to celebrate the pull the trigger as far as played fourteen. And right before that happens I'll presented with the opportunity to -- fox. Who could talk being here on the West Coast. Well then Los Angeles C this is for me blog blog and play in the NFL. More to -- -- career where I still like to be a lot longer than -- playing in the NF down I had a great time in the NFL this. You know play for eight years and you know -- many people went. You know it is one of those things where I felt like my career hadn't gone down this path that can be a lot brighter for me in trying to play in the year in the NFL with. You just never know where that may lead you. Yeah -- her did you get up to Boise for the famous Idaho potato bowl against the university of buffalo we do and. Active -- -- -- good job. -- stated and I don't play any of the buffalo brought back a lot of memories as it is. You know look at that watching -- back in I've been up and part table watch an entire week. -- -- spinning the ball cleared definitely I'm going to be a first round draft pick. And that's -- NFL draft he showed the so flatten everything many guys that they gave they gave them a team ball hawking maniac about it and call them that because. You can lining up outside you can the only dropping coverage. He has great speed great technique and have a side so something that felt he will be very very happy to elect him because. They know the kind of player in particular. And the previous posting I still think he's still raw he's still. Talent that gonna improve those good to see. About slow especially going to let -- -- second bowl game and really third in school history. Can decline in the first home -- acknowledged very proud to have multiple programs that she'd been in question he worked for the last couple years I don't know how much. This city of buffalo they they they love those double doubles. Have more on the -- were Kirk Morrison he is C. A fox football daily analysts on fox sports one -- the -- analysts on San Diego State football that's I've already talked about a little -- I wanted to ask you about then and let you. You get into that -- I don't wanna ask you. One of the things and it's a big stir in the NFL -- -- talk about it on fox today the Michael same story and I notice that a tweet that channel yesterday last night. Yeah it was pretty simple you said Michael Sam much respect -- what your thoughts are. I didn't exist for me you know you look at Uncle -- is there is that because the player of the year. Ahead in the SEC. And the guy can play football you know eagle and three and a half. Perhaps second year tour eleven match. Eat Thai director -- -- and Smith and the linebacker. For the -- 49ers who almost broke the NFL record for most sacks this season. And -- say that you know you tell your teammates and before the season starts. You know why I'm an openly gay. Player god and everybody except some. The Indian the biggest thing for me is it's much respect because. He can -- embark on one of the biggest job interviews of his life. And -- right now my morning consist of working -- with you know a lot of these popular -- draft choices for next year outlook a lot of guys and and I disappeared and I not trying to locally we've been as far as we don't feel we do work and I -- not -- mentor. And and I'm just trying to help -- guys who may have. You know may have missed. A practice here and there may have been kicked out of school or may have had a situation Indian college to have the deal -- So while -- geared guide and mentor them for that NFL interviewing process. NBA and I say here's Michael Hamlin got who brought forward his interview to start he comes out and says you know what I'm gay. And that is just huge that is respect because. A lot of people that that you know what I'm not gonna do that unless. Go into the NFL com behind his job reviewed and I'm gonna show them you know why you have to hold that little part about. Who they really are holed that -- And he didn't do that sulfur in the go up there at me and could we don't know he put his. Usually put maybe he's future risk by coming out and tell people that he's openly gay but. Just to have -- the guts to do that managers you -- you respect that you salute him and definitely he's inspire I think a lot of not only football players and athletes around the world that that this man could go out and say you know what. I'm -- go forward my career. And flew it in the NFL but what I do get to that level I'm wanna go after lie yeah that's ultimately take actually. Kirk we saw Howell and his teammates at University of Missouri handled that last year how well these NFL teammates his future. NFL teammates respond to that. -- know Johnson play in the NFL. Unaffected a new releases like I gotta tell you that you played with teammate who -- May have suspected that word you know sexual orientation -- different. You know it's. They're they're sexual preference a little bit different you have guys that you just didn't know and there was no -- for a spectacular win the judgment. You can't have that can't -- like the NFL. That's the way that in the locker rooms are made -- you have guys from all over the country. All over the world particularly like. Different races different sizes. You know he -- the guys who were big and strong and 300 almost -- -- -- the other guy who really -- you know Mubarak 85. -- -- this as a bad person locker room. And I think that it it's hitting point. We're acting community so be ready I think this is ready right now for an openly -- football player and I would -- -- teammate at the University of Missouri could back him and for this story to come out now because he went out and said you know let. Until the story on my terms that's. That's huge. Because everybody at Missouri new. From the coaching staff to the athletic director to some of the media immediately cup the football team -- teammates. You know he was able to live his life. Open in that area of the country and nobody judged him and he went on had a remarkable season. And now what I'm saying that the NFL. Can do the same I just hope that nobody tries to jump on innocent -- keep it every which way he goes. Because I just want him to live his life but we don't right now he's. Up from him not his decision to come out you know he truly is going to be AA a guy that everybody wants to watch. Metallic element lot of guys today. In our meeting that we do for the show that. You know the NFL. On the Roger Goodell tried to -- his feet up and didn't back. In -- look at this. Here's another here's something else is gonna drive the NFL at the mainstream even more. Because even if you're just an average fan or even if your panel on the fifth. Or if you are Corey Feldman. You wanna see what Michael slammed down you wanna see him. At the column by you wanna see him run this forty you wanna see him -- -- -- vertical leap is how does he do indeed dead. It come by injury so he's gonna be restored and Ryder Cup following. For me out other little going to be Johnny man feels trapped but right now -- changed all that for a -- -- know -- -- -- -- it's -- about Michael stamp. -- we're live on the line with Kirk Morrison who played linebacker for the Buffalo Bills for a couple of years part of his eight year NFL career is an analyst -- Fox sports one now out -- Angeles what about it I wanna ask you about a couple of your former team's current dispute here yeah your take and let's start with the bills. That the Yemeni thoughts on EJ Manuel rookie year and the bills can -- EJ moving. Or. Was it hard to -- little bit watched. Can throughout the season to see you wish he can stay healthy. You know you can under percent. He didn't annual I think a lot of people believe that -- you saw the flashes of how do this piece it can be early on. You know a lot of big wins early economy thing about the Carolina Panthers are one of the best teams in the NFL last year. -- -- the Buffalo Bills you know on a great drive by -- Those doubting its Stevie Johnson back at the end zone shelled some of the Protestant sort of metallic easily possesses but. We know. And the NFL if you north outlet here quarterback here you know are you gonna be able to survive those -- and he's not starting and compare that to the Green Bay Packers were. You know their their hot with Aaron Rodgers and he's out you know -- almost half the season. And they were able to maintain until we got back in -- one and that. NFC north the Buffalo Bills don't have that same quarterback situation as far as the backup role so. It's about staying healthy. I thought that's happening. He's just he's still had a down year and I picked him you know number one about -- yeah but the he's gonna tear. A guy that was gonna take the next step you know probable or 2012 but. I think took a step back in 2013. So it's more but -- team that's still had to find its label when your leader goes down which -- your quarterback. You know sometimes that it is hard to overcome that. Her before he came to buffalo and you spent a year with Jacksonville before that your third round pick the Oakland Raiders it. And those three franchises where you -- hearing your NFL career. Troubled franchises when it comes to winning and playoff appearances have been scarce obviously is -- did you see anything that the link those three together the major thing. You know this is the common characteristic they have that the makes it hard for -- and has made it hard for them to do advance and get into the post season. -- Let it. Or if you look at all three of you say. Coaching changes -- -- -- so. It's always that's always tough and mean are -- late coaching changes to. Inconsistent. Quarterback play. And if you didn't want to -- wing media capital link. Inconsistent quarterback play. Mountains you know and an Oakland we have the JaMarcus Russell. 20071. All draft pick in widely considered one of the biggest -- in the NFL history. And you know what kind of -- that franchise back in. You know lot of guys who played from their best years in good football but you have to sit and hit -- quarterback play do you lose gains and coaches get fired then you go to Jacksonville and you know same thing David Girardi is playing great inconsistent play but also -- division against Peyton Manning and it's the same thing for the Buffalo Bills is. You know it's it's it's tough to win. In any division. Where Tom Brady in the New England Patriots are supposed to have a down year that'll happen and then they don't have -- koehlke. You know tell I have no -- wide receiver -- got a lot of young guys who break in the air and you know and then -- with the belly fat free agency he was hurt for part of the year and -- the federal quarterback in college but yet. Bill Belichick used to go to suddenly -- twelve games and it is hard couldn't be certain divisions. When you got good quarterback play at the top and for the raiders they have to deal with. You know Peyton Manning twice a year would get -- Hope they'll have to do what Tom Brady twice a year and and then you look at particular territory -- Andrew -- -- -- visit Seoul. I'll always equated you know coaching changes. With inconsistent quarterback play and I think that's particularly these three franchises with. When you have consistent quarterback play you can look around the NFL and -- the over the team which traditionally -- to play -- -- hero. Last question Korea Kirk win and we're all transitioning towards the F. It's the NFL draft which is may -- the efforts around the NFL draft party talked about Michael -- but is there any. Player or may be -- players that you particularly here are curious about -- in this run up to the draft now a couple of months away. You know I'm I'm like on the -- on the digital ballplayer you know confident that the -- -- -- for -- mobile quarterbacks so much because. I get a chance to see the Mike Glenn and nick poll you look at Russell Wilson. A lot of these you know Alex that was around that -- I think Rebecca these are not taken in the first round. And I think the blueprint was made by the Seattle Seahawks a little bit this year where it. This that he that was built on defense on law there a lot of undrafted guys at fifth round draft pick and you know you look at the child -- round draft pick it cycle billing in the decentralized he was undrafted about a lack of respect around. So they think they hit home run this forum later in the draft but they still build this team is threatening quarterback. In the second in the -- Russell Wilson. That's what we'll look at his draft and say. It keeps its stockpiled in the beginning of Israel what good talent at wide receiver all sorts of life. Since the line you don't have that passages in his draft. -- stocked -- here. Indeed in the second line not the first round of the somebody's second line quarterbacks. No word that deer carcass Fresno state law my -- -- did you drop a -- -- -- mutual and -- He -- -- in the unity he can be a second round guidance in -- of that fact fail and posh boy that. Mean there's been a decent quarterback it even -- -- the care where these quarterbacks it's. And if he'd seen the stock up on defense and say we can get some good quarterback play later -- rounds in travel Russell Wilson type. It's. The guy who knows the game is Smart out and don't lose the game for you -- sometimes teens say they just don't look at game four we're gonna how good defense. To -- -- given the public has to have the -- put points on the board. But don't turn the ball over -- pierce and quarterbacks in this draft they can beat that. And that made it deep trap. A lot of -- out of people aren't talking about with the quality with the quarterback. This. I just. All the fans do to Kirk you're just like the rest of us all the OK on to make sure that I don't know I figure and the way we -- so well at a podium. We can't get open -- -- -- that's right el duke I've read you're doing so well and broadcasts and we we could tell when you were here just that. Short dead window you're here that you're at a future in broadcasting continued success. Thank you very much being on the -- this tonight. They've got our pleasure aren't living up. Okay current arson played linebacker here for the Buffalo Bills for a couple of years 2011 and 2012 and now is gone on to he's he's pretty good broadcaster already with fox sports one. He's doing their regular football analysis there also the color analyst on a San Diego State University football games. You could help. When he was here that he -- -- and you could tell that he knew what he was talking about and that he could talk about it and we appreciate his insights tonight on everything Michael sandy NFL draft. The bills troubles and how about that. For an NFL career eight years and he went from Oakland to Jacksonville buffalo. That's -- -- I mean those are three tough. Places that have had a rough go in the eight years that that Kirk Morrison was there feel bad form but that. But you know pretty distinguished career at some very good years with the Oakland Raiders and then had trouble staying healthy and staying on the field when he was here with the Buffalo Bills but. You can tell he knew he was talking about and you could tell that he he had a future in broadcasting I'm sure. You have not heard the last of her more and we thank him for joining us on the show tonight while the show tonight so far we've talked about the Michael same issue with Patrick Burke who's the co-founder of the you can play project. You can know look that up and you can play dot org. And and then of course Kirk -- a moment ago and coming up just few minutes James Lofton -- -- fame receiver. We reached out to James the other day to get him on the show James -- obviously will welcome his former teammate Andre reed into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this August. James -- just coming off a stint on the sidelines at Super Bowl 48. But the Westwood One radio broadcast he's pretty good broadcaster and it's all right we'll talk to James about the Super Bowl and about Andre joining him in the hall of payment. The court your phone calls will be welcomed as well so we're gonna take a break and come back and joined by -- James laughter when we return. Give a -- question for James Paul minds open in 0305 if -- toll free 1888550. To 550 John Murphy show presented by sonoco. -- tonight from one bills drive on Buffalo Bills -- So he's not John Murphy shown on Buffalo Bills radio. Part of that we're here till 9 o'clock tonight and John Murphy show presented by no -- doctor a couple of interesting guys already. Patrick Burke about this the Michael same situation and of course her Morse and wade in on that as well if you have thoughts on Michael salmon. What what it all means. Gibbs call the lines are open in 030550. The number toll free 1888. 550 to 550 so I said to a Patrick Birkhead at 730 when he was -- It's it's almost like the NFL is lagging behind the rest of American society right most of us. I've worked with the gay people are no gay people are friends with gay people and gay people and their families and although I acknowledge that him you know publicly proclaiming that last night it's a big deal like do I do get bad. I don't know that it's that big deal and I don't think it will have. You know it probably going to be a major upheaval in NFL locker rooms are among the NFL fan base quite frankly because it's to sort of an accepted part of of American culture and that I'd I'd take it that may be over played a little bit. But the you know I could be wrong on that but if your thoughts on that it was a call 803 or 550 is a number to call we'll talk more about that right now we want to work. Jump on the line right now to talk to an old friend a guy who used to go radio with me way back when that forty some years ago on Monday nights in buffalo and Western New York he's spent sixteen years. In the National Football League including several great years with the Buffalo Bills he's a pro football hall of -- the great -- locked in a melanomas library now James getting any member of Monday nights we get a radio show to get their way back when. You know I do have out there remember the Monday where he showed up a little late and you let me hanging. I mean I don't know what to do it is just want to take two callers to talk to people and I was I was more nervous doing that that I have ever been on the football field. Yes -- I think that was back in the day when I was running from the TV station to the radio that I probably wasn't exactly it. You -- recovered well you're broadcasting career is done extremely well including net. A stint on the sideline a Super Bowl 488 days ago on. It'd been trying to you know after a tennis coaching and went back to Westwood One network with him prior. Doing some other stuff after -- retired with NBC and Fox Sports Net and clocked in different people so. I've got it checked just about from everybody I don't discriminate at all. James locked in the hall of famers on the line of the severe. Comments or questions for James the phone lines open it 0305 -- your toll free 1888. By fifty to 550 games how much of a let down what's different view on the sidelines -- Super Bowl 48 affected became really wasn't much of the game has turned out. Well it's funny because we split out as a sideline reporters I had the Seahawks sideline and mark Malone. The Denver Broncos so. Has the game is going on you're still reporting on what's happening during the game and as a sideline reporters with due to silent reporters. If you if you get. Also a couple of nuggets here and there about how the games going to what you've seen and you know what you're kind of talked about it at the beginning of the game so. Do you still throws and and then once that. You know third quarter it's about mid way and you start thinking okay. Which I guess do we wanna trying to get in this mad scramble once the game is over and so you start to plot that. And I had the MVP. And also I got a chance to interview Pete Carroll. Along with you know maybe two or three other Seattle Seahawks and mark alone have about 45 guys also so -- been it was a mad scramble. They used to be. A waiting period where they they cordoned off and we were there along with the television was ever televised in the game we're only two. But that's not the case anymore now it's just opened up and there's so many outlets in their they're probably more outlets in there than there are players on the winning team. Jane slot that I guess he was -- Saddam reporter on the Westwood One radio broadcast the Super Bowl 48. His seventh time as a sideline reporter and Super Bowl -- -- the last five Super Bowls and and it struck me James it we Americans football fans have been spoiled by a very close competitive super bulls last Sunday's was had ever reversion to the days gone by when the Super Bowl was not all that competitive. If you know it was but I think when the underdog wins I think it's still a huge surprise and then I don't think it was a compelling to -- -- You know I went back and a lot. Fox's coverage of the ball game. And and it's interesting -- to watch what -- Choose to replay what they're highlighting what they're talking about the use of your opinions as you're doing your broadcast you watch in the game from field level when you're on the sideline as a sideline reporter who's a discrepancy what television to accept that you might have missed. You know what I thought television mr. James and you watch the brackets they never. I thought adequately explain what -- Peyton Manning's problem was what he saw you know and that in that the Seattle secondary that prevented him from from. Personal -- time to throw and secondly you have -- and anybody open. I know you're on the sidelines -- field level but what do you think the problem was with the Denver office. Well I think the biggest thing in the and it's gonna sound really corny. Seattle was able to keep everything in front of and by that. Denver's not eighteen it really throws the ball down -- 25 plus yards downfield. A lot of their plays are in the 05 yard passing area. They get guys on the move or they throw screens and out of those zero to five your passes. They get twelve -- fifteen yard -- when they were totaled -- zero to five they were getting to catch and that was it. Peyton Manning had a record for most completions and a game. But really I don't think he had more. Then eight completions. Dallas killed fifteen yards or more. You know where the ball actually traveled that far down the field so relative did a great job tackling. -- chancellor of the strong safety for. The Seattle Seahawks set the tone early. In a big hit on the mayor Thomas. And then you tried it could -- to your screen game in the extreme game user Wes Welker to block a linebacker you're trying to run a tight end to get to safety. And then just overmatched. On those you know simple plays that they've been so good that you're all year long because the -- Thomas and Julia Thomas said. Sure sure catches and long runs all season long and they just weren't able to convert in those in the big plays into ball 40s48. You know Seattle's defense is almost put up or shut out now I know they've played well for most of the season but. I do benefits they James when I heard people compare them to -- you know some of the great defense is in recent years you know the ravens' Super -- defense -- The 85 Chicago Bears than you think they rank alongside defense is like that. I think I think they do a little bit because you have to look at -- the finished product in and look at their their body work during the entire. Regular season and everything that they have more committed got a nickname that they've got the legion -- boom working -- itself. The 85 bears had the you know NC Chicago shuffle or whatever they called it. That the ravens you know they had ray -- dance in the idea of the legion Bowman and ray lewis' team. What was really just getting started when they won their personable now they they never won another one until Ray Lewis got greater retire. But there was a gap in there where they were dominant defense so let's see if Seattle can now string together 567 years of playing -- decent. Rely on the I would James Lofton in the hall of fame wide receiver sixteen years in the National Football League including. Some great years here the Buffalo Bills and now analysts sideline reporter in the color -- for the Westwood One radio broadcast games. Your thoughts on Michael Sam today what did you make of his revelation last night and and the reaction 22 that. It seemed like what what I've been able to gather that the reaction has been really positive. He's not the first -- player in the NFL there's been players who have come out since they've left the game. And they're probably in more players who decided not to come out at all for for various reasons. It it it's so it's a bold it's an exciting move. And they get it's it's been a learning point. It's great talking point for people all around the country and you know we'll just see how how progressive. The NFL locker room can be. What you spent sixteen years and NFL locker rooms. How do you think that will go over. Well it was he was -- tricky one when I was coaching. For the San Diego Chargers is that the same time that Don't Ask Don't Tell was being talked about. In the military and so you know I remembered talking to my players at one point message you know. You -- probably happened -- a gay teammate at some point whether it was high school college or in the NFL. And and you didn't know about. And it you know it it shouldn't be something that they should be so alarming. Because. They're gay people all walks of life and and in most of us probably have family members surrogate if we if we ask enough questions and go around so. He'd do it should be something that. Just seems like it couldn't happen beat because it has happened before. And you know just the -- he encouraged that this young man was able to come up with -- To talk about it even before it goes to come by and where's he's going to be asked about a lot there can be other players that about a lot -- is that it's gonna start some great dialogue. You mentioned your coaching career games and you're six years with the chargers as the receivers coach one year with the Oakland Raiders ship. You had their interviews -- -- a head coach both in the -- -- -- -- Stanford in the NFL are you finished with coaching did you like coach in what hero wanna get back to. I did enjoy it working with the players is it's fantastic. Getting to be part of their lives get into them. You know -- know them is almost like and additional family members. That was that was really great and to elect like that I that the head coaching interviews. You know I look back on the people who hired instead of me and you know none of war or stellar record of lost just as many games they did. And doubt but it would have been a lot of fun to try it. It James and at the Super Bowl the day before the Super Bowl the word came out that your former teammate Andre reed is gonna stand alongside you on the I'm Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend Ohio what did you think of that announcement indeed did you go into it thinking it's about time. Well I had my fingers crossed that pretty -- but the last 45 years thinking that that I do was really right on the cusp of of getting in. And down that day they had the announcement at radio city music -- and I just happened to be when the media members who was. We -- of Westwood One and we're gonna do the very view all the -- all the fame inductees. Downstairs. Underneath where they were doing the television show. And I found out about 45 minutes before the announcements were made that that he'd gotten in -- text message. And when they finally came downstairs. I don't know who are really client first and -- like battling it back but it is -- a big without so happy formed and I know that. It means a lot to them and it means a lot to them to kind of join the other. For the Buffalo Bills were really. -- pushing that teams of four straight Super Bowls you know as a -- -- to join Marv Levy to be there with Bruce Smith and Thurman Thomas. And to not be outside that little loop -- guys because he really was. 11 of the core guys. And in all that winning that happened in buffalo. You know when you think about it when you look back at it now twenty years later. As it turns out for those four years that you were here the Buffalo Bills the bills had 22. Hall of fame wide receivers that doesn't happen very often it. No I acknowledge that it you know I was I was at the tail end of my career and in the interest remember rightly put LA raiders. And you know we're watching film and we're locked in buffalo gets one of upcoming opponent. And we'll put -- down the slot. So here I kind of found out there under read it could -- we're which could step you know so that was the first time I've noticed him. And then when I got the pair with him as a teammate I got to really you know good he really looks. Is pretty good you were to James and you're awfully good on the radio on Monday night's thank you very much for doing this -- -- tonight we appreciate it. Thank John and hopefully we can get out Sunday night game and now buffalo we get catching picked up somewhere I would definitely do it thank you James are ready. Games -- in the hall of fame wide receiver talking about his former teammate Andre reed entering into the hall of fame along with James and it's a great Fortier stint here the Buffalo Bills that played on the Super Bowl team for the Buffalo Bills and while what a player he was definitely.
